BBY Oval Master Carbon
Oct 10th, 2006

Here it is! Finally, pictures of my boat. They were taken today (01/11/2000) and posted today. Was I eager or not?

The package has ARRIVED. The first pictures are here and the boat is wonderful.

It will fly for sure. A very sleek design, first class hull and best of all, the hardware was installed by Randy Naylor. What more could I ask for? And now may you ask, what happened? Why did you almost killed us with the suspense?

The explanation is simple.

  • Randy sent the boat the 16th of September

  • The Post Office messed things up and sent the boat to him saying that nobody claimed the package.

  • It arrived the 31st of December 1999 at BBY!

  • Randy emailed me, and he sent me the boat again offering to pay for the shipment. We split the cost and he sent me the boat by Express Mail after changing a few things on the boat with knowledge gathered since the fisrt shipment.

  • This must be the most traveled boat around. From the US to Portugal, to the US again and back to Portugal. How many miles does this make?

1st Class service! If this serves as an endorsement to BBY, that's what it is supposed to be. Thanks Randy!

The motor and servo mount already installed.  The water exit tube is also in place.

The pictures, video and the step by step building will arrive. When that package arrives I'll fly to the workbench and start building it. I don't mind if it's raining at the lake. Anyway the boat runs on water and sometimes they blow over, so the rain is not a big deal :-)

I was starting to feel that I needed a new boat.
My WEB Surfing found a good candidate , but I decided to call the manufacturer to know some details about hardware and setup.

He told me about the possible setups (props, motors) and then he suggested that I try a new design that is about 2 to 4 mph faster than the one I was looking at.

All the hardware in place. Just plug the AVEOX and radio gear and go! I'm not even sure if I'm going to paint it. It looks so beautiful in black...

Here are a few details that may help you draw the picture:

Carbon Fiber Hull
Special Aluminum Light Weight Hardware
Around 35 mph with Plettenberg motor and 8 cells

It will be powered by this motor

(I knew that I couldn't hold it much longer...)

It finally arrived! The only thing I didn't like was the credit card receipt :-). I hope it lasts long...

The motor is so well built that you can see that it's a perfect piece of engineering. The shaft is 1/8" (by request) and the can is machined from solid. A small allen key accompanies the motor so that you can loosen the screws that hold the "endbell" in place. You will need this to adjust the motor timing.

The manual is very clear and gives you guidelines for this adjustment. It also says "keep the motor dry, because neodymium magnets will suffer from corrosion..." Well, I just need to be sure that the hatch is really well sealed.
